Once again it’s time for me to look back at the past year and make my Digital Marketing Predictions for the 2014 New Year. If you have a few of your own please post them in the comments, I would love to see them.
1. More Small Businesses will find that offline marketing alone just won’t cut it anymore.
As many small businesses keep losing more sales to the large corporate competitors that sell online that have content creatives working for them, small business owners will start taking more time to create quality content for their website blogs and social media.
2. This brings me to my second prediction, Content!
Small Business people think creating content is just too time consuming, and they’re right it takes time to create good content for their blogs and social media. But giving a constant pitch fest at their prospects won’t work anymore! So, I predict we will be seeing more creative target content in 2014 created by digital marketing companies like Small Time Marketer, (I know, but why use a competitor for my example).
3. I see more Social Ad Spending in the coming year as businesses start focusing more locally with their digital marketing.
We saw Facebook along with LinkedIn move ads into their news feeds this year, I think the next step for them would be to allow even more granular targeting in the new year. Making both of them good choices for B2B and B2C companies to use them for local marketing.
4. Facebook will keep losing their younger users.
It looks like teens don’t find Facebook cool anymore. With Facebook needing the ad dollars companies pay to target the younger demographic to keep alive, this could be the start of Facebooks demise.
5. Bing will follow Google’s lead by Encrypting their search queries.
Microsoft now knows the NSA was hacking into its network So, it’s just a matter of time before they switch to mandatory SSL encryption across the board. Something all businesses should think about doing.
6. Guest Blogging will fade away.
Due to Google’s Penguin algorithm changes using some off-page SEO will be very risky for brands. In a recent video by Matt Cutts of Google he says if you use guest blogging use it in moderation, don’t make it your day job.
7. Corporate brands will continue to grow in organic search at the expense of the small business brands.
Google has made it clear over the years that big brands matter and the little brands are full of bad people that need sorted out of their search index. I see Googles algorithm updates for 2014 to continue to favor the big brand businesses.
8. Cookies for tracking you online will change in 2014.
With all the ways to block browser cookies, you just know someone out there is creating a better way to track you across all your devices. It may not be the mark of the beast, but it will sure be the way to mark your online movements for marketing.
9. I see a fallout of SEO companies in 2014.
Companies that provide SEO services will need to innovate or die!
Some SEO companies think having their clients buy thousands of dollars in Adwords only is providing SEO services, this yesterday’s old way of doing things. SEO providers need to look toward the horizon for new ways to promote their clients businesses for less, or find themselves out of work.
10. Windows Desktop PC’s vanish from the home.
With the growth of mobile devices, the Android and iOS operating systems dominating the market, I see only businesses using Windows Desktop systems anymore. Some of this have been brought on by Microsoft with what I believe to be harder to use operating systems like Windows 8, with its mobile face.
That’s not all I predict, but who wants to keep reading when you can ask my advice in the comments below.
Have a Fantastic New Year!
Until next time,
